Paddy Bleakley wrote this song because he was frustrated with the power of the advertising and brainwashing skills of some of the mega corporations out there and how they abuse that power all so they can get wealthy at the expense of us.
When Paddy took the lyrics to the band, what they heard was a sad story of a girl who had been taken advantage of. This turned into the initial mellow feel and sound of the song.
Something didn't sit right with Simon. He wasn't satisfied. Simon brought the song back to its roots with the ending of the song he added. Obviously angry at how the girl in the song had been taken advantage of, he felt the song hadn't resolved itself. He cranked it up musically and lyrically in a new second section, putting the icing on the cake. This ending he came up with made the song what it is and is well worth the wait!
